Wellington
Like you have read in the first chapter of this website, we moved to Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. Main reason: work, but this is not the only reason because to me, it was really"love at first sight". Although Wellington is a city with around 200.000 people, in many ways it is a village. I hope I don't offend anyone by saying this, but it feels like it. Everything is walkable. We walk to work, only 10 minutes. In the weekends we walk along the beach, it is a small beach at Oriental Parade, but it is nice. We walked through the botanical gardens ( Photo, Bea in the rose garden at the botanical gardens )We love to walk along the waterfront and enjoy the sun at the many benches along this promenade. We love to walk at the Cuba Mall and street and watch the people who do the same. We enjoy the many walkways everywhere in the suburbs around Wellington and at night it is a pleasure to stroll through Courtney Place and have a glow at Wellington Nightlife.
Everybody in Wellington enjoys the outdoor facilities and this makes it even more nice. This makes Wellington lively and cosy. Lots of outdoors areas where you can have a nice cup of coffee. ( photo: Bea at "Chicago" a sunny spot at the event centre in Wellington )
Wellington has also a good shopping area. Lots of clothes, shoe and "nice to have" shops. Although some Wellingtonian people may think differently, I think that it is a joy to go shopping in Wellington and it is difficult not to spent to much money.
Again all the shops are in a walking distance from each other. This makes it so convenience.
The last subject for this chapter is about al the restaurants and bars in Wellington. I was told that Wellington has the most restaurants and bars per citizen in the world. The restaurant are full from breakfast till midnight. Everybody is eating out.
It is really amazing. We do enjoy this too of course but we try to go out for diner just once a week. We have tried several restaurants already. So far, the cambodian restaurant on Victoria street was the best, but in a later stage I will give you some more names and tips.
And than again I should not forget to mention all the take a ways. If you don't want to, you don't have to cook in Wellington and you can eat everyday something different.
I know you have an urge to come to Wellington right now, don't you. And your Welcome.
